Unexpected Loss

Dragancaor Creative!

My generation seems to be attending more funerals than weddings, at a time where it should still be the other way around.  Even as a wedding photographer I seem to be attending more funerals than weddings, which is frightening.

This week alone, my circle has had two very unexpected losses.  One of these gorgeous women I worked with on shoots & she was a phenomenal stylist & small business owner.  The other was counted as Mum to me for a good many years, she ran a strong small business & I looked up to her a lot.

Honestly, I’m not dealing all too well at the moment & would ask that you please forgive me if my replies to emails & messages are slow &/or short.  I’ll get through it, but I do need a bit of time to come to terms with it.  I wont be letting any booked clients down.  Those who had bookings that this might effect, have already been contacted.  Please do not worry about bookings.  This is more about I may be slow to respond to messages.

It is never easy to lose someone.  Recently I wrote that a great place to look for a way to pull through losing a friend or loved one, is by spending time with other people who have suffered that same loss.  Especially if it’s the loss of the same person.  It’s why wakes are such an important thing. Go out together for a tea/coffee/water or sit in a park & just talk.  Sit quietly under the blanket fort you built together. Remember the fun & laugh.  It’s healthy to laugh at fond memories, & it’s not at all disrespectful to the person you have lost.  Celebrate their life, rather than focus on their death.

If you have been affected by a loss recently, or if you are struggling heavily with something else, please reach out & talk to someone.  There is nothing wrong with asking for help. Friends are your first & most important support network.

If you feel you can’t reach out to a friend, or you don’t want to burden them with the weight, please contact Beyond Blue on 1300 22 46 36. That’s exactly what they are there for & they aren’t going to mind nor judge you. If you can’t deal with phones, this link will take you to their online chat & their email contact options.
