Gillian has had a passionfor photography sincechildhood, receiving herfirst camera at age 10, andhad it confiscated 2 weekslater when she showedrather alarming talent(1).In the early 90s, shereceived informal training in the Kimberley,taught by a wedding/portrait photographer & amotorsport/landscape photographer, who hadvery different ideas from one-another abouthow a picture should be taken. The trial is stillpending(2).Over the years, Gillian has participated insmall, group workshops to remain up to date &open-minded. When you look at the worldthrough a lens, it’s bound to get a bit skewed.Gillian is continually pushing the boundaries ofwhat she has learned, not allowing herself toform limitations or to stop learning.With a background in visual & performing artsas well as in marketing, it was thought thatGillian would pursue a career as PR for DavidTennant. However, the camera objected, & (asit is hard to separate Gillian & that much-lovedpartner-in-crime) being a Photographer withartistic flair (tempered by commercial know-how & experience) won out.Gillian specialises in Band & Eventphotography, however her work includes muchfrom Fine Art & Travel to Commercialadvertising & Portrait/Glamour photography.She often likes combining these various facetsi.e. Travelling to do Portrait/Glamourphotography for a Band or Event, & will happilydiscuss the possibility as such. She’s a published photojournalist (including PerthSuburban Newspapers, Community NewspaperGroup, Drum Media, Xpress Magazine, &Kalamunda Community Matters), with a coupleof rather proud Front Pages under her belt (&quite likely on her wall too).She is also a qualified makeup artist, with aCert 2 in Make Up Artistry & a Diploma in MakeUp for Film, Media & Theatre; with experiencein evening & special occasion makeups, highfashion, stage production & film – includingcasualty effects. Even though she can make itlook as though the crows have been circling fora while, her makeup kit is geared towardssensitive skin where possible. She also holds acurrent First Aid certificate; so if it’s not hermakeup you’re bloodied by, she’ll know what todo!Four days a week Gillian works for ElizabethArden as a counter manager within David Jonesat Garden City, Booragoon. If you want some of the world’s best skincare, makeup, a makeover,complimentary skin/moisture consultation or theabsolute best tinted moisturiser that she’s evercome across, hop on over & visit.Since that first camera, Gillian has used &tested a variety of camera makes & modelsincluding Canon, Miranda, Kodak, Sony,Practica, Olympus, Olympia, Nikon, Pentax &Polaroid across both film & digital varieties. Her equipment of choice now includes:Pentax K10D Digital SLRPentax MZ60 35mm (film) SLRCompletely unrelated, Gillian writes, runs &plays Dungeons & Dragons, along with theoccasional article or story. With one book outalready, she’s currently working on anotherthree… one of them on Shoes.
